Sonoma’s Haven Rescue

After years of assisting rescues with their boarding needs, Sonoma’s Haven still felt there was more they could do. With that, we are pleased to announce that as of January 2021, Sonoma’s Haven has constructed its own rescue unit. This means that while we will continue to offer the same boarding services we have in the past but will also be rescuing animals under the Sonoma’s Haven name. We are beyond excited for this next step and have already completed construction on a new building to house our rescues.

If you are interested in helping us as we strive to save more lives please consider, fostering, adoption, volunteering your time at our facility or, by donating to our cause today.

Become a Foster!

Want to get involved in a BIG WAY???

Fostering is the way to go & we NEED them ALL THE TIME.

What is fostering and how does it work???

Fostering is the act of taking a dog or cat into your home while they prepare for adoption. Keep in mind that during this time, we provide all the supplies you’ll need to care for the animal as well as any medical costs that might arise. This includes: food, crates, bowls, leashes, collars etc. We will work with you to ensure your foster experience is a great one. You can even let us know of a timeline if you’re only available short term.

So how long are we expected to foster the animal, you might ask?

Timelines for fostering often vary depending on the animals condition upon intake. With that, it’s difficult to provide an estimate. Just rest assured knowing that we will work with you should you be unable to continue housing an animal. We will also talk with you about estimates beforehand based on the details we have at the time.

In summary, by fostering you get to cuddle and love on some sweet lost souls who are often desperate to experience the good side of humanity while we pay for their needs. Fosters are VITAL to our organization and are truly life savers. With that you also get the satisfaction of knowing you played a huge part in making a difference.

If you’re interested in fostering at all please fill out our foster application form today. Once completed a foster coordinator will be in touch to go through your application and answer any questions you might have. Filling out the application is not a commitment. We understand fostering is not for everyone but if we can make it work to save another life, we love to try.

Adopt with Sonoma’s Haven

Welcome to the best page of the site!!! The one with the biggest reward!!! Taking home your new best friend and family member!!!

We’re so happy you’re considering adoption and are here to answer any questions you might have. By taking this step you are helping to save lives. We primarily pull animals from kill shelters across the Houston Metro area who have often seen the colder side of humanity and are just looking to be loved. They do go through a quarantine period where they are evaluated and also provided with any rehabilitation or healthcare required in order to make them eligible for adoption. This includes spay and or neutering as well as heartworm testing and treatment where applicable, vaccinations, deworming and microchipping. We do also test each rescue for aggression towards people as well as other animals. We take great care to ensure that you are being matched with the right pet and are here to address any concerns you might have. All of our adoptable animals will have an identification card which will outline their individual needs and traits. Once adoptions are completed, the adopter will be provided with electronic copies of the dog's records. Microchips will need to be registered individually by the adopter soon thereafter. If you’d like more information on how it all works please contact us at [email protected].

See a rescue you think would be a fit but aren’t quite ready to commit? Consider our foster to adopt program where you can foster the dog for a 2 week period before you have to decide. This trial period allows you to see how the animal fits in your home. During the foster period you will be treated as such until you make the decision to formally adopt. For more information on fostering click here.

Please also check out our Silver Snouts for Silver Sneakers Program which matches senior dogs with senior citizens looking for companionship.

Silver Snouts for Silver Sneakers

We present to you the faces of our newest program. Silver Snouts for Silver Sneakers.
This program allows us to rescue senior dogs from across the state and pair them with senior citizens who are looking for some companionship of their own. Companionship without the need for house training or extensive exercise. Instead you get a seasoned partner, who's already past the puppy stage, listens contently to whatever secrets you don't want spread, loves naps, treats, and warm snuggles. This beautiful pairing will also come with a sponsored adoption fee and free food upon pick up.

While we know taking in seniors is not always an easy job, the reward is often one of the most satisfying that we get here at Sonoma's Haven. It's true, sometimes we take in seniors who are so ill that all we can do is love them and keep them comfortable before we assist them over the rainbow bridge. BUT there are also many times, where we get to save sweet senior souls like the ones pictured here and offer them the opportunity to live out their golden years with like minded companions who know that we only get better with age.

While we will be applying for grants to fund this program we will also need help from our donors. So if you, like us, believe that these silver snouts deserve a better ending than one that includes euthanasia in a cold dark shelter, please help us today by donating to cover the costs of adoption fees and food for the wise beings we intend to help. In the future we also hope to build a Silver Snouts Casita so they have a very comfortable and quiet place to rest their bones while they wait to be swept away by some silver sneakers.

If donations are made specific to this program please let us know by either telling us specifically upon cash delivery, writing Silver Snouts in the Memo section of your check, or typing Silver Snouts in the notes of your PayPal donation.
